A QUICK LOOK FROM PAST TO PRESENT
I grew up in a professional sports family with a father playing baseball at University of Texas and ending his pro career in Houston. Also, an older brother played football at Texas Tech and then on to the Philadelphia Eagles. So, a competitive lifestyle was no stranger to me.
As I entered Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas in 1968 with my sights set on football, the lifestyle that was expected to be took a dramatic change. Sam Houston State University claimed several world championships in college rodeo and that presented me with a new challenge. Surrounded by many cowboy athletes that went on to be world champions and NFR qualifiers I took on the sport of rodeo. With a strong will and competitive attitude the game was on.
I opened Allens Western Wear & Saddlery in 1976 and continue to enjoy what I do this day. Rodeoing through four years of college and amaturering until 1980, I became a member of the Pro-Rodeo Association where I met and became friends with many of the best calf ropers and trainers in the country. Over forty years of using many brands of saddles and tack, I felt a need for better equipment. What makes the best products in the business is to be associated with those who know what quality is and demands it.
